Mrs. Patti Krieger, Certified Dyslexia Practitioner

Reading Success Plus is pleased to announce the addition of Mrs. Patti Krieger, International Dyslexia Association (I.D.A.) certified Dyslexia Practitioner, to their growing tutoring staff.  Mrs. Krieger is a Grand Valley State University graduate, and has over 3000 hours tutoring people of all ages, from young children to adults.

Specialized Training

Mrs. Krieger initially received her training at the Children’s Dyslexia Center of West Michigan, an IMSLEC accredited program. Over her 8 years with the CDC, she received basic and advanced Orton-Gillingham training. She worked at the Children’s Dyslexia Center as a tutor and supervisor, until they closed in May 2016.  She continued her career at SLD Read, where she received additional Orton-Gillingham training, and was a tutor and master tutor. Additionally, Mrs. Krieger was a Reading Interventionist for New Branches Charter Academy, where she was trained in the Susan Barton Reading & Spelling System, levels 1- 5 (another Orton-Gillingham program). She is experienced in observation, evaluation and mentoring tutors, as well as working with student, parents, and educators.

Mrs. Krieger’s experience, not only as a tutor, but also as a Sunday School Teacher, PTA President, substitute teacher and stay-at-home mom (of a child with a learning disability), has uniquely prepared her to tutor children of all ages. Mrs. Krieger strives to make tutoring educational, visual and fun for her students. She is also passionate about educating families about dyslexia and is looking forward to the next chapter in her career with Reading Success Plus!

Specialized Tutoring Center Opens

Readed Success Plus Specialized Tutoring

Specialized Tutoring –

Reading Success Plus opens a tutoring center for struggling readers and students with dyslexia. A first of its kind in West Michigan, Reading Success Plus features specialized tutoring programs including the highly acclaimed Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing (LiPS) program, Barton Reading & Spelling program, as well as the highly-specialized Orton-Gillingham math tutoring.  The Orton-Gillingham method has been available since the 1940’s, and teaches students using all learning modalities to imprint reading and math into their long term memory.

Struggling Reader or Dyslexic?

If your student is a struggling reader, they may be dyslexic.  Dr. Sally Shaywitz at the Yale Center for Dyslexia and Creativity has found that 80-90% of all individuals identified as having a learning disability are dyslexic. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Summary Report in 1994, dyslexia is the most common cause of reading difficulties in elementary age school children. Additionally, their research indicates that dyslexia affects at least 20 percent (1 in 5), of our population, with varying degrees of severity. You might be surprised to learn that dyslexia is the most researched of all learning disabilities.  Unfortunately, it is also the leading cause of reading failure and school dropouts in our nation. The good news is, with intervention, a person with dyslexia can learn to read!
